BESA provides file format readers for most major EEG and MEG data formats. A list of supported data formats can be found here: Supported data formats
Some readers will already be enabled when installing BESA Research, while others need to be activated after installation. This page describes how to install readers that are not configured by default and how to update existing readers.
Install File Format Readers
Please close BESA Research before installing new file format readers.
To activate a file format reader, you need to go to the Utilities\Additional Readers\ subfolder of your BESA Research installation directory.
Note that the default path to the BESA Research installation directory depends on the version of BESA Research and your operating system. For BESA Research 6.1 running on a 64-bit Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP the default paths are:
- English: C:\Program Files (x86)\BESA\Research_6_1\
- German: C:\Programme (x86)\BESA\Research_6_1\
If you are using an operating system with a 32-bit architecture, the default paths are:
- English: C:\Program Files\BESA\Research_6_1\
- German: C:\Programme\BESA\Research_6_1\
The Utilities\Additional Readers\ subfolder contains folders for all file format readers that can be activated for BESA Research (e.g. EBNeuro, MEF, XLTek, etc.). Open the folder of the reader you want to install and run the InstallReader.exe application.
After successfully installing the file format reader, you can start BESA Research and open your data files.
Update File Format Readers
Please close BESA Research before updating any existing file format readers.
The latest installers for various file formats can be downloaded from the following site: BESA file format readers
To update an existing reader, extract the downloaded ZIP file and copy the resulting resulting folder to the Utilities\Additional Readers\ subfolder of your BESA Research installation directory. Open the folder of the reader you want to install and run the InstallReader.exe application.
After successfully installing the file format reader, you can start BESA Research and open your data files.
